Our organization is working on advocacy to try and maintain the Alberta Child Benefit in the upcoming provincial budget. We believe this important program for low-income families is at risk of being cut.
The Alberta Child Benefit has contributed to the reduction of Alberta’s child poverty rate by 50 per cent—more than in any other province—making Alberta Child Poverty the lowest rate in Canada (at 5%). We believe in and respect the important work that our province is doing to find efficiencies and to exercise fiscal responsibility.
We also believe that this important policy must be maintained in the Alberta October Budget.
We have recently collaborated to send the Minster of Children’s Services the attached letter in regard to the Alberta Child Benefit and to publish this recent https://calgaryherald.com/opinion/columnists/opinion-alberta-child-benefit-has-proven-itself-as-a-poverty-fighter.
We have attached a Word copy that you are welcome to use or edit for your own organization. We are working with many organizations across the province voice their support for this important poverty reduction policy by submitting their own letter as soon as possible.
Is this something your organization is able to do? Do you have any feedback or insights to lend to our efforts?
Thanks for considering,
